Gas company overestimated my usage for several years, can I get a refund? - For several years, the gas company has been estimating my gas usage. I wasn’t aware of this and never received any communication that the meter reader couldn’t find it. It was only when I read the fine print in brackets that it was an estimate that I started to read all my previous bills.
I’ve now found that they have overestimated my meter reading by about 5 quarters worth. I’m not sure of the units but my bill says 27000 and my meter says 23000, and their estimate is about 750 a quarter. So that’s about 5 quarters worth. I don’t think it’s meters cubed as that seems too high.
In any case, they’ve massively overcharged me.
Can I reasonably expect a refund here?
If they put up a fight, is there a governing body that I can go to for help?
Back of napkin calcs, even excluding daily usage charges, says they probably owe me at least hundreds of dollars.
