Kinetiko Energy Ltd (ASX: KKO), an Australian gas explorer and developer focused on shallow conventional gas and coal bed methane in South Africa, has announced significant progress in its onshore gas exploration and production development activities. The company's recent core drilling efforts near the Secunda refinery in the ER272 region have yielded strong gas results, increasing confidence in the potential for gas field development.

The third and fourth core holes, 272-06C and 272-08C, were successfully completed in early June and are located in close proximity to the Secunda refinery operated by Sasol, a potential gas off-taker, and the Lily pipeline, South Africa's largest gas pipeline. Wireline logging results from these wells have established significant gas intervals in the sandstone formations, indicating the presence of exploitable gas reserves.

Kinetiko's CEO, Nick de Blocq, expressed enthusiasm about the results, stating, "We are very excited by the fantastic log results from all four core holes to date. " Particularly noteworthy are the second pair of core holes, which were drilled between Sasol's Secunda Plant and the Tutuka Power Station, approximately 14 kilometers away. Despite being the shallowest core holes in their acreage, they have yielded an average of over 147 meters of gas-bearing sediments, a remarkable achievement.

The presence of dolerites in the region suggests that a significant portion of the sub-igneous zones drilled through will contribute strongly to gas flow.

The successful completion of these core wells near major South African energy infrastructure highlights the potential for gas field development only a few kilometers away. Kinetiko plans to continue its exploration efforts, with two additional core wells expected to be drilled in the ER272 region this week.

With these positive results, Kinetiko Energy is making significant strides in its gas exploration and development activities in South Africa. The company remains committed to harnessing the potential of the country's shallow gas and coal bed methane resources.
