People who bought a home in the last year- how are you doing? - Just genuinely curious- I myself am starting to get a bit nervous tbh. I bought my house nearly 1 year go, was $340,000 but I had around $60k in savings from a previous house sale due to a relationship split up, so after all the fees and such my mortgage is $300,000. My parents agreed to let $60,000 of their savings sit in my offset account for the time being, and I've contributed $6,000 into there ontop of this. I have another $4,000 in a personal savings account, so I have about $10k total of savings.
I was on $56k salary but very recently got it up to $60k (this is before tax). It's not much of an increase at all, but I plan on using the job as a stepping stone as I'm gaining a ton of experience in it.
I will now be bringing home $1,800+ per fortnight, I'm paying $900 into the mortgage, about $200 for groceries, and roughly $150 on internet, electric & water. I have a cheap Aldi sim for mobile, and I shop at Aldi for groceries. I cook every night, and try to keep eating out at a minimum. I aim to save about $400 per fortnight, but sometimes a massive bill like rego or insurance hits and I have bad weeks.
Obviously this looks like it's gonna get worse before it gets better, I just wanna see how others are coping who may be in similar circumstancesAusfinance
