Lindi Jumbo Graphite Mine Commences Ore Processing: A Milestone for Walkabout Resources

Walkabout Resources Ltd (ASX:WKT), a prominent mining company, has announced the successful commencement of wet commissioning of the Crushing Circuit at the Lindi Jumbo Graphite Mine in Tanzania. This significant development marks the first feeding of graphite ore through the entire crushing circuit, heralding a new phase in graphite production.

Wet Commissioning: De-risking the Operational Start-up

The wet commissioning process is not only a test of the practical working of the circuit but also plays a crucial role in de-risking the operational startup of the Lindi Jumbo Mine. This process involves creating a fine ore stockpile from high-grade graphite ore, which is essential for the wet commissioning of the remainder of the processing plant. Approximately 19,000 tonnes from the existing ore stockpile will be utilized, sufficient for a month’s production at nameplate capacity.

Strategic Use of Existing Ore Stockpile

Utilizing the existing ore stockpile for the commissioning and startup phase has provided real cash savings for Walkabout Resources. This strategic move stems from the fact that the cost associated with the creation of the current high-grade ore stockpile was already incurred during the mining of competent rock for the Tailings Storage Facility (TSF).

The commencement of operational mining will soon follow, leading to a systematic buildup of high-grade (>20% TGC) and medium-grade (>10% TGC) stockpiles.

Power Generation and Electrical Capacity

The mine is currently using mobile generating capacity for the wet commissioning of the crushing circuit. This is a temporary measure while awaiting the delivery of essential MV and LV switchgear and transformers, delayed at the Dar es Salaam Port due to congestion. The full 5MW of grid power, necessary for advancing wet commissioning, is expected to become available upon the receipt of these components.

Commissioning Activities: From Dry to Wet

In addition to the wet commissioning, dry commissioning has also started on equipment within the grinding and flotation circuit. These activities are crucial steps in preparation for continuous feed through the entire processing circuit, ensuring a smooth transition to full-scale operations.

Governmental Visit and Endorsement

On December 28, the Minister of Minerals, Honourable Anthony Peter Mavunde (MP), along with officials from the District Commissioner's office and the Chief Inspector of Mines, visited the Lindi Graphite Mine. The visit, which received positive feedback and wide media coverage in Tanzania, underscored the project's significance and progress.

Management's Vision and Forward-Looking Statement

Andrew Cunningham, Managing Director & CEO of Walkabout Resources, expressed his satisfaction with the operational progress. He highlighted the importance of the fine ore stockpile in de-risking the source of ore for the concentrator in the coming months, ensuring a stable and efficient ramp-up to full production.

The successful start of wet commissioning at the Lindi Jumbo Graphite Mine is a pivotal moment for Walkabout Resources. It not only demonstrates the operational readiness of the plant but also sets the stage for a smooth transition to full-scale production. With the mine's strategic location and robust infrastructure, Walkabout Resources is well-positioned to become a key player in the global graphite market.
