Who is Simon Hay and Tom Blackwell, CEO and Project Director at Leo Lithium?
Leo Lithium (ASX: LLL), a key player in the global lithium market, is making significant strides in the development of the Goulamina Lithium Project in Mali. This ambitious project is poised to become one of the world's largest spodumene mines, set to supply the ever-expanding lithium-ion battery industry. In this detailed report, we will delve into the project's key highlights, its strategic partnership, and the individuals at the helm of this endeavor.
Goulamina: A Game-Changer
Goulamina, situated in Mali, is Leo Lithium's flagship project, and it's not just another lithium endeavor. This project is expected to make a significant impact in the lithium market by becoming West Africa's first spodumene producer. Furthermore, Goulamina is set to deliver its first spodumene concentrate by mid-2024, a timeline that aligns perfectly with the surging demand for lithium-ion batteries.

producer, known for its prominent position in the lithium industry. This partnership not only brings financial stability but also valuable expertise and experience in lithium production. Ganfeng's involvement underscores the project's significance on a global scale.
Financial Strength and Construction Progress
Leo Lithium is well-equipped to undertake this massive undertaking. With sufficient funding in place, the project has commenced construction on-site. The deposit itself boasts an impressive scale and high-grade lithium resources, with ongoing drilling activities aiming to further augment its potential. The company plans to enhance its mineral resource and ore reserve estimates later in 2023, reflecting its commitment to delivering a world-class lithium asset.
Meet the Key Players
Simon Hay - Managing Director
Mr. Simon Hay took the reins as Managing Director and CEO of Leo Lithium in January 2022, bringing with him a wealth of experience in the lithium sector. Notably, he served as the Chief Executive Officer of Galaxy Resources Limited, an ASX-listed lithium company. Under his leadership, Galaxy Resources merged with Orocobre Limited, creating Allkem (ASX: AKE), which ranks as the world's fifth-largest lithium producer.
Mr. Hay's astute knowledge of the lithium market and his track record in creating value in the industry make him a key figure in Leo Lithium's journey. He also holds the position of non-executive Chairman of Battery Future Acquisition Corporation, a NYSE-listed special purpose corporation with a focus on the battery metals value chain.
Tom Blackwell - Project Director
Mr. Tom Blackwell assumed the role of Project Director at Leo Lithium in June 2022, tasked with overseeing the entire Goulamina Lithium Project from development to commissioning and handover. With a strong educational background in Engineering, Science, and Project Management, coupled with expertise in Business Administration and General Management, Tom is well-prepared for the role.
He brings over two decades of experience in leading teams through the delivery of both greenfield and brownfield projects. His recent stint as Project Director at Galaxy Resources, where he oversaw lithium development projects in Argentina and Canada, highlights his proficiency in project execution. Tom's ability to navigate the complexities of large projects and foster teamwork in diverse environments is a valuable asset to Leo Lithium.
Leo Lithium's Goulamina Lithium Project is positioned to make a significant impact on the global lithium market. With a strategic partnership with Ganfeng, strong financial backing, and a team of experienced leaders, the project is well on its way to becoming a pivotal player in the lithium-ion battery industry. Investors and industry observers will undoubtedly keep a close eye on the progress of this groundbreaking venture.
