Why BrainChip's New Australian Patent Strengthens its AI Portfolio
Sydney, August 25, 2023 - BrainChip Holdings Ltd ("BrainChip" or the "Company") (ASX: BRN, OTCQX: BRCHF, ADR: BCHPY), the world's first commercial producer of ultra-low power neuromorphic AI IP, has announced the issuance of a new Australian patent that reinforces its position as a leader in the field. The patent, AU 2022203607, was granted on August 24, 2023, by IP Australia.
Benefits of the Patent:
The newly granted patent, titled "Event-Based Extraction of Features in a Convolutional Spiking Neural Network," significantly enhances BrainChip's portfolio, which now comprises 18 issued patents. The company considers this patent to be a valuable asset that will give it a competitive edge by preventing rivals from efficiently performing transposed and dilated convolutions in a neural network.
The key features protected by the patent include:
The patent safeguards event-based transposed and dilated convolution techniques on digital input data converted into events. This approach reduces computational requirements and power consumption compared

to non-event-based convolutions.
Advanced edge applications can be implemented using fewer event-based neuron circuits, thanks to the patented technology.
The technology offers significant advantages in low power consumption and efficiency, surpassing existing state-of-the-art techniques. It is particularly suitable for tasks such as semantic segmentation and super-resolution.
The patented technology is well-advanced in development and will be integrated into the second-generation Akida IP, demonstrating its practical usability in cutting-edge hardware.
Expanding BrainChip's Reach:
BrainChip's patent portfolio now includes 18 issued patents, with 12 in the United States, 4 in Australia, 1 in Europe, and 1 in China. Additionally, the company has approximately 30 patent applications pending across various countries including the US, Europe, Australia, Canada, Japan, Korea, India, Brazil, Russia, Mexico, and Israel.
With this latest addition to its portfolio, BrainChip solidifies its position as a leader in the field of ultra-low power neuromorphic AI IP. The company continues to drive innovation and advance its technology to meet the evolving demands of the AI industry.

rush, it’s a complex, slow-moving process that takes years of precision and experience.
Intel could recover some ground eventually, but framing them as the savior of American chipmaking feels more like a political talking point than a practical reality.
